Floriography is the practice of communicating messages via bouquets and floral arrangements. Victorians used it as a way of quietly sending coded messages of passion at a time when public displays of affection were frowned upon. Using this secret language, a floral arrangement was brimming with passion, messages of hope and strength, or hidden melancholy. The savvy recipient would immediately be able to read or decode the intended message. We’ve reimagined traditional meanings as they apply to the here and now, though in some cases, the sentiments needed no alteration. The more things change the more they stay the same, don’t you think?
